What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is an ancient practice of healing that uses the reflex points in the hands, feet or ears to work through the corresponding systems in the rest of the body. The hands, feet and ears map reflex points of organs and systems and the reflexology practitioner puts pressure onto the reflex points with their thumbs and fingers to stimulate them. Reflexology looks at the whole of the person; the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects are all considered and treated using the natural energy pathways of the body, the meridian lines, to balance and restore the body’s natural state of equilibrium.
How long does a Reflexology appointment last?
Typically a Reflexology session lasts one hour. Your first appointment will consist of providing your practitioner with medical history, this is in keeping with the Association of Reflexologists and insurance requirements. It’s also a time to discuss with your therapist your own reasons for receiving Reflexology and discussing how the treatments can be tailored to meet your own needs and if a course of treatment is required a treatment plan is discussed and drawn up.
What happens in a Reflexology appointment?
The Reflexology practitioner will start every session by looking at the condition of the feet, cleaning and preparing them to receive the treatment. Using reflexology specific moves the feet are relaxed one at a time before the practitioner works systematically through the reflex points on each foot, areas that are sensitive or a little painful mark areas of imbalance and will be noted by the practitioner. The session is bought to a close with a gentle and relaxing massage with the feet feeling warm and happy!
