About Nutritional Therapy

Naturopathic Nutritional therapy is an evidenced based approach to health aimed at treating the body as a whole using personalised nutritional and lifestyle changes to seek the root cause of health concerns, rather than simply treating the symptoms. Nutritional therapy is a recognised complementary therapy based on evidence. Nutritional therapy is a relevant approach for individuals who are looking to enhance their health, and also for supporting those suffering from chronic health conditions such as :- anxiety and stress, autoimmune conditions, digestive problems, fatigue, headaches and migraine, skin conditions allergies and sleep issues.

How do consultations work?

If you contact Abergavenny Natural Therapies they will give you my details so that we can have a talk on the telephone before you make an appointment. If you want to make an appointment I will arrange this with the clinic. Following the booking of your appointment a pre appointment pack will be sent to you via email. This will include a confidential health questionnaire and a 3 or 7 day diet diary. You will need to complete the forms and return them to me before your appointment, as this will help me to prepare for your consultation.

The initial consultation

The initial consultation will last about 1 hour. This consists of  a confidential conversation about your current health concerns and aims. I will also take a detailed health history from you, look at your family’s health as well as making an assessment of  your current diet and lifestyle. From this I can identify areas of your health and wellbeing that need to be supported. A realistic personalised plan based around food and lifestyle changes will be created that will aim to address these issues.

Following your consultation

After the consultation I will prepare a Personalised Nutrition Plan for you, addressing your aims and focusing on where I believe nutritional support is needed. This plan will be detailed but easy to follow. I always take your lifestyle into account, ensuring that my ideas are tailored to your own specific needs and possible time, money or family constraints. I will also give you a selection of at least 7 ideas for your breakfast, lunch and dinner for the following weeks as I know that this can help with those ‘but what can I eat’ moments! You will also be sent suitable recipes and tips to help ease you through these changes which I know, can sometimes feel intimidating.

It is my aim to help you make healthy changes that will become part of your day to day life, and that will help you reach your own health goals.

I may also suggest some nutritional supplements, but before doing so I will check any contraindications with any medications that you might be taking.  In some instances, I might feel that you would benefit from testing. I always try initially to get these done with your GP, however, on some occasions I might suggest private tests.

Follow up appointments are scheduled after about 4 weeks. Email and phone support are available between appointments.

Please note that nutritional advice is not a substitute for medical advice or treatment.
